Howdy, y'all! This is my newly finished project for my theatre class, Costume Fundamentals. We work on a construction project for the first part of the term and the finished product is basically our midterm. The second part of the term is focused around design. I decided to build my "Fundies Bag" as based on the character Fay D. Flourite from Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. He is my favorite character from that series and I felt this was an interesting and fun design choice.

I tried to get a lot of detail into my bag so I'll try to explain it here:
First off, Fay is a wizard with a joyous disposition but a dark past...
The main blue fabric is the same color as his magic-suppressing tattoo on his back.
I think the starry fabric is very magical.
The staff is a shortened replica of his magical device.
The metal feather sewn onto the front pocket as well as the charm attached to the zipper as a zipper pull are echoes of the Princess Sakura's feathers Fay is on a quest to gather (with Syaoran, Kurogane, and Mokona, of course).
The pocket flaps are both Mokona. The white one goes with the four travelers on their journey between worlds, works as a translation device, and helps keep the group connected with Yuko, the dimensional witch who helps them. The black one stays with Yuko. Think of them as a kind of walkie talkie...
The fur is an echo of the fur trim around Fay's lovely coat.
The silver lettering (if you will) is a section of the spell Fay casts to first travel across the dimensions and time. This is the way he first meets Yuko.

This project took me about five weeks to complete, working in and out of class. Materials: sewing supplies, fabric, black and white buttons, beads, a clear aquarium rock (painted), blue and red aquarium rocks, gold Sharpie paint pen, feather doodads, nylon webbing, Heat and Bond appliqué stuff, faux fur trim, zipper, crystal prism thingy, and I think that's it...
Oh, I almost forgot! I even manipulated the photos I took of it in Photoshop! All by myself! (the complexity of this program still overwhelms me...)
